Dead Deer and Campers
Feb 23rd, 2007 by vivienne
One of the annoying things about a nice spot of land is that everyone knows about it. Our land has been used for years as a parking lot for hunters, for offloading snowmobiles, and as a hunting camp; hunters have strung and butchered their deer from Vista Forest there for years.
But not any longer.
Yesterday we tackled bringing down the two deer butchering setups on the land. These are a heavy logs strapped high between two trees, from which hunters would hang and butcher carcasses. I noticed a pit between the two butchering trees, and realized that it was not an old outhouse as I had imagined but probably contained the carcases of many deer.
So in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep I thought, What else is in there? Dead campers, of course. I guess we’ll find out in spring. Any one want to dig?
