Yesterday we hired Dawson Byler and his amazing tractor thingy to lift us high above the trees so we could figure out how high we would have to build to reach the view. It was a gray day, so the photos aren’t as I would like, but it was a hell of a lot of fun. Here’s Dawson and his new toy: a remote for the boom thingy. Sorry Dawson, I forgot what this machine is called.
The boom went up to 31 feet and we got great view to the northeast to northwest. The view to the south is pretty good too, but I think we would have to go about another 10 feet up to get a full 360. Barry says he climbed the original stair tower and it was 80 feet.
So here’s a bit of the view to the north, click. ![]()

This is the view of the top of the ski hill, you can’t see the runs which drop down behind those trees to the left and go down to the Buena Vista Ranch.

This is Michael at the top of the tree line to the south. So we figured that we need three floors on the tower, probably the ground floor at 12 feet, the second floor up 10 feet, and the top floor nine feet. If we could get a roof view too we would have the full 360 degrees!
Then there’s me to looking north. It’s all a bit gray right now, the snow has just melted off and no green up yet. I think the fall view will be fabulous.
