Building Finisterre

I’ll be visiting Steve at Security Bank after Easter to discuss the mind numbing issue of financing. We actually chose this bank not because the people are very nice, which they are, but because they have a small but good contemporary art collection. It is rather soothing to look at a beautiful encaustic work with gold leaf while Steve punches in the numbers and delivers the truth of the matter, which is always a bit of a cold shower. I need to put a whole lot of financial confidence behind this build, for us and for the bank. I would feel a lot more confident about the whole thing if Minnesota offered the sort of financial incentives that California does. If we lived in West Hollywood we would have 107 incentives for green building to choose from, and this is an area where people are hardly in need of rebates. But what incentives do we have in Minnesota? Not so much. In fact our accountant just told me that it’s the construction company that gets the tax incentive to build green, not the homeowner. Now how silly is that?
